Electricity tracking

The producer obtains a premium for each Guarantee of Origin sold. The premium is a long term incentive for increased renewable production investments.
Electricity tracking

A Guarantee of origin is a certificate stating how, when and where a MWh of electricity has been produced. The guarantee documents that electricity consumed is derived from renewable, low carbon sources.
Electricity tracking

A consumer purchasing renewable electricity products may claim the renewable attributes of the consumed power.
Electricity tracking
A customer on a supply contract not based on specific origin cannot claim that consumption is derived from any particular energy source. The energy consumed is attributed to the residual mix calculated by the national regulator every year.

Carbon accounting

Nearly 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions is caused by energy generation. Half of that energy is used by industrial or commercial entities. The Green House Gas (GHG) Protocol enables businesses to calculate carbon emission from consumption of purchased electricity, so called Scope 2 emissions.

The indirect emissions caused by the consumed electricity (Upstream Scope 2) can be minimized by the purchase of electricity from renewable sources tracked by Guarantees of Origin.
